Stay on the right side of the law with an inventory of hazardous materials (IHM)
Both the International Maritime Organisation’s Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC) and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR) require that ships document all hazardous substances on board.
The deadline for implementing the EU regulations was 2020, although some ports complied ahead of schedule. In contrast, the timeframes for the HKC depend on what flag a ship sails under.
On top of that, an inventory of hazardous materials – including all materials that pose a risk to the health and safety of people or the environment – must be drafted or updated before a ship is broken up. By identifying the type and location of the materials as well as their quantities, this catalogue facilitates professional and environmentally sound recycling.
Our IHM document complies with the Hong Kong Convention, Resolution MEPC.269 (68) and the EU Ship Recycling Regulation (SRR).
